Analyst calls out Sean McDermott as Josh Allen's workload raises serious questions in Bills

Newspoint
The Buffalo Bills sit at 8-4 and remain in the playoff race, but questions around the team’s offensive strategy continue to grow. Head coach Sean McDermott is now facing criticism after NFL analyst Greg Cosell suggested the franchise has failed to properly utilize star quarterback Josh Allen , especially given his rare physical ability and influence on the team’s success.

Speaking on the December 4 episode of the Ross Tucker Podcast, Cosell argued that the Bills have relied too heavily on Allen as both a passer and runner, hinting that the coaching staff lacks confidence in the team’s receiving corps.

Josh Allen carries the offense
Despite Buffalo’s tactical shift toward a run-heavy scheme, Allen remains the centerpiece of the Bills’ offense. Through 12 games, he has completed 243 of 350 pass attempts for 2,832 yards and 19 touchdowns, along with 10 interceptions. His dual-threat performance continues to stand out, with Allen adding 409 rushing yards and 11 rushing touchdowns this season.

Allen has already broken multiple rushing records in 2025. He now ranks second in total rushing touchdowns (76) since 2018, behind only Derrick Henry's 106. This year also marks Allen’s sixth straight season with 30 or more total touchdowns, placing him ahead of elite names such as Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers.

Concerns point back to receiver development
Cosell suggested Buffalo’s offensive approach reflects deeper concerns about the wide receiver room. Compared to other top AFC contenders, the Bills’ passing offense appears underdeveloped.

The decision to part ways with former Pro Bowl receiver Stefon Diggs after the 2023 season continues to be a topic of debate. Since then, the Bills have regularly rotated practice squad players into the lineup, signaling ongoing uncertainty at the position.

Buffalo will look to sustain momentum after a strong Week 13 win over Pittsburgh. However, if the Bills hope to compete deep into the postseason, analysts believe adjustments must be made - not just to the game plan, but to the roster itself.

For now, Josh Allen remains the engine powering Buffalo - but the question remains: how long can the Bills rely on him alone?
