BREAKING: Cheltenham Festival horse Saint Le Fort dies in second death on Gold Cup day
Racing horse Saint Le Fort has passed away soon after competing in the National Hunt Steeple Chase Challenge Cup (Novices’ Handicap Steeple Chase).
Saint Le Fort fell at the final obstacle in the last race of the Cheltenham Festival. Veterinary professionals immediately attended to the horse after it fell.
However, not long after Envoi Allen passed away after the Gold Cup concluded, Le Fort became the second horse of the day to die.

A spokesperson from Cheltenham Racecourse said: "Saint Le Fort was immediately attended to by a team of expert veterinary professionals during our seventh race of the day but sadly sustained an injury when falling at the final hurdle.
"In their assessment, it was concluded that the best course of action for the horse’s welfare was for him to be humanely euthanised. Our heartfelt condolences are with his connections.”
Saint Le Fort was the fourth horse to die at this year's festival. Earlier this week, Hansard and HMS Seahorse also died after suffering falls in their races. When the Gold Cup was finished, Envoi Allen collapsed and died.
When the oldest horse in the Gold Cup passed away, a spokesperson for Cheltenham Racecourse said: "After completing in our fifth race of the day, Envoi Allen collapsed on course. He was immediately attended to by a team of veterinary experts, but sadly passed away. Envoi Allen was a supremely talented horse, and our heartfelt condolences are with all his connections."
