Chalton Athletic's home fixture with Portsmouth was suspended after a medical emergency in the crowd. The Championship clash had been playing for around 12 minutes, before the referee paused the action for treatment to be administered in the Covered End Lower.

Around five minutes later, players were taken off the field of play as treatment continued.

Supporters in attendance reported that those close to the incident quickly alerted stewards and match officials in order for the game to be stopped and emergency treatment administered.

The game at the Valley was one of three in the second tier to kick off at 12.30pm. However, with the other two reaching half time, fans were told it would be a while before any definitive update could be offered regarding the resumption of the game.

Charlton came into the contest marooned in the bottom half of the Championship table and on the back of four straight defeats. And Portsmouth were in even more desperate need for points with a run of just one win in their last nine matches seeing them drop in the relegation zone.
