'I was at a party for one of David Beckham's sons – I couldn't believe what Victoria did'

Victoria Beckham is no stranger to raising a few eyebrows. Amid fresh accusations from her son Brooklyn Beckham about her behaviour behind closed doors, an old anecdote has resurfaced that paints a very different, if still surprising, picture of the former Spice Girl.

The fashion designer has been thrust under the microscope this week following Brooklyn's explosive Instagram post. On Monday, the 26-year-old - the oldest child of Victoria and Sir David Beckham - blasted his parents in a savage statement. He claimed he'd been "controlled" by them and accused the pair of trying to "ruin" his relationship with his wife Nicola Peltz Beckham.

He levelled particularly stinging accusations at his mother, asserting that she "cancelled" making Nicola's wedding dress at the last minute. He also claimed that she called him "evil" and "hijacked" his first dance with Nicola, before dancing "very inappropriately".

While these claims remain unverified, they have prompted renewed scrutiny of Victoria's conduct at family events - and they are not the first stories to leave people surprised by her behaviour at a celebration involving one of her sons.

Back in 2007, shortly after Sir David's high-profile move to LA Galaxy, the Beckhams hosted a birthday party for one of their children, inviting the club's players and their families. Years later, Carlos Pavon Jr - son of former Galaxy striker Carlos Pavon - recalled that Victoria stole the show at the party, not just among the adults, but with the kids as well.

"I was playing with [Beckham's] son on the inflatable trampoline and we were jumping, and then out of nowhere, I notice the kid's mum comes in, David's wife, Victoria," Pavon Jr told the La Pelota Al DIEZ podcast.

"She started jumping with us and I was like, 'I can't believe I'm doing this with Victoria Beckham,' so I think that was the funniest thing. Everybody saw when she came in and started jumping with us, so when I came out, I think they all saw my surprised face, like, 'Wow, that just happened.' It was really funny."

Tensions within the Beckham family have reportedly been simmering for years. Brooklyn's relationship with Nicola began in 2019, with the pair getting engaged in 2020 before eventually tying the knot in 2022. While relations were said to be warm at first, cracks began to emerge in the lead-up to the wedding.

A major source of friction is believed to centre on the controversy surrounding Nicola's wedding dress. It's understood that she had initially planned to wear a gown designed by Victoria's fashion label but ultimately walked down the aisle in a custom Valentino creation instead.

According to Brooklyn, the change was not by choice. He alleges that Victoria "cancelled making Nicola's dress in the eleventh hour... forcing her to urgently find a new dress." He has also claimed that on the night before the wedding, family members told him Nicola was "not blood" and "not family."

Brooklyn also claimed that Victoria called him "evil" during planning because he chose to seat his and Nicola's grandmothers at the top table rather than prioritising his parents.

Rumours of a rift began circulating - and while attempts to quash those rumours with several joint public appearances together helped, things escalated in 2025 when Brooklyn and Nicola decided not to attend David's 50th birthday party. Months later, David and Victoria were notably absent from Brooklyn and Nicola's vow renewal ceremony, signalling a deep divide.

In December last year, reports surfaced that Brooklyn had blocked both his parents and siblings on social media. A few weeks later, he reportedly sent a legal letter to his parents demanding all future communication go through his lawyers.

"I have been silent for years and made every effort to keep these matters private," Brooklyn said on Monday. "Unfortunately my parents and their team have continued to go to the press, leaving me with no choice but to speak for myself and tell the truth about only some of the lies that have been printed.

"I do not want to reconcile with my family. I'm not being controlled, I'm standing up for myself for the first time in my life. For my entire life, my parents have controlled narratives in the press about our family.

"The performative social media posts, family events and inauthentic relationships have been a fixture of the life I was born into."

He added: "My parents have been trying endlessly to ruin my relationship since before my wedding, and it hasn't stopped... My wife has been consistently disrespected by my family, no matter how hard we've tried to come together as one. My mum has repeatedly invited women from my past into our lives in ways that were clearly intended to make us both uncomfortable."

He ended by saying: "My wife has been consistently disrespected by my family, no matter how hard we've tried to come together as one. My mum has repeatedly invited women from my past into our lives in ways that were clearly intended to make us both uncomfortable."

On Tuesday, Sir David broke his silence on the controversy. The former England and Manchester United footballer acknowledged that his children had "made mistakes" on social media, while stressing that they are "allowed" to do so - insisting it is part of how they learn.

"What kids can access these days, it can be dangerous. But what I have found personally, especially with my kids as well, use it for the right reasons," he told CNBC. "I've been able to use my platform for my following, for UNICEF. And it has been the biggest tool to make people aware of what’s going on around the world for children.

"And I have tried to do the same with my children, to educate them. They make mistakes, but children are allowed to make mistakes. That is how they learn. That is what I try to teach my kids."
