IPL 2026 to Decide India Squad for ODI World Cup 2027: Report
The Indian Premier League starting March 28 is set to be extremely important for Indian players. The T20 league will play a major role in shaping Team India’s squad for the ODI World Cup 2027 .
According to a report by Press Trust of India citing sources from the Board of Control for Cricket in India, the selection committee has shortlisted 20 players. Their performances during IPL 2026 will be closely monitored.
The committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, will focus on both form and fitness of these players throughout the tournament.
All senior players are expected to feature in the match, underlining its importance despite it not being part of the World Test Championship points cycle.
Each selector will attend at least one match per week at the stadium. This will help them prepare detailed ground reports covering the performances of shortlisted players across five matches every week.
In addition to live matches, selectors will also track other games through television coverage to ensure no performance goes unnoticed.
The idea is to finalize a strong and stable squad for the ODI World Cup 2027 by closely evaluating consistent performers in high-pressure IPL matches.
Chief selector Ajit Agarkar will be based in Mumbai. SS Das will monitor matches from Kolkata.
RP Singh and Ajay Ratra will be stationed in the NCR region, while Pragyan Ojha will keep track of matches in Bengaluru and Hyderabad.
India is scheduled to play nine Test matches between August and March. Keeping this in mind, all red-ball players are expected to be available for the Afghanistan fixture.
It is also understood that Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj will be part of the Test squad against Afghanistan, provided they remain fit during the IPL.
