IPL 2026, Match 8: Here's why MI can dominate DC

Delhi Capitals (DC) will take on Mumbai Indians (MI) in Match 8 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Saturday.

The game, the first afternoon match of the season, will be played at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.

Both teams have made a winning start to the season, which makes this contest an exciting affair.

Meanwhile, the Mumbai-based team will take the field as favorites.

Here we decode why they can dominate this game.

MI are superior in terms of batting firepower

The Arun Jaitley Stadium is known for its high-scoring matches due to shorter boundaries.

Even 200-plus runs are not considered safe on this ground. This gives MI an edge as they boast one of the best batting units this season.

They chased down 221 runs against KKR in their opener, thanks to 75-plus scores from openers Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton.

The batting depth also includes captain Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, and Sherfane Rutherford.

What about the DC batting?

Though DC beat LSG in their opener, they were reeling at 26/4 while chasing 142 runs.

KL Rahul was dismissed for a golden duck in the game.

Apart from Rahul, skipper Axar Patel, Pathum Nissanka, and Nitish Rana also fell in the powerplay.

If MI decide to open with both Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult in the powerplay, the top-order collapse might be replicated.

This is another reason why MI are expected to come on top.

Here are the probable XIIs

Delhi Capitals Probable XII: KL Rahul (wk), Pathum Nissanka, Nitish Rana, Axar Patel (c), Sameer Rizvi, Tristan Stubbs, David Miller, Vipraj Nigam, Lungi Ngidi, Kuldeep Yadav, T Natarajan, Mukesh Kumar.

Mumbai Indians Probable XII: Ryan Rickelton (wk), Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya (c), Naman Dhir, Sherfane Rutherford, Shardul Thakur, Mayank Markande, AM Ghazanfar, Trent Boult, Jasprit Bumrah.

MI have dominated DC in recent years

Since 2022, MI have won five out of seven matches against DC, including both last season, as per ESPNcricinfo.

This record puts extra pressure on Axar Patel's men to come up with a different strategy.

In terms of the overall head-to-head record, the two teams have faced each other 37 times with MI winning 21 matches while DC have won 16.

At home, DC own seven wins and six defeats against the five-time champions.
