Jamie Carragher and his mum shared a wholesome phone call during CBS Sports' coverage of Wednesday night's Champions League action. The moment came after Liverpool eased past Marseille 3-0 away from home to solidify their hopes of a place in the knockout stages.

The win moved Arne Slot's men to fourth in the league table and in a great position to qualify straight to the last 16. Liverpool take on Qarabag at Anfield in the final game next week.

Dominik Szoboszlai opened the scoring in first half injury time before Geronimo Rulli's own goal added breathing room. In the final stages of the game in France, Cody Gakpo's first goal in four games made it a perfect evening.

Appearing on the traditional Champions League show panel alongside Micah Richards, Thierry Henry and presenter Kate Scott, Carragher was discussing his former side's dominant win before revealing he had received a text message from his mum, Paula.

"Oh my god what a win," the text read. "Been to the theatre with Angela. Just seen the score, made up." After going to respond via text, Richards insisted Carragher got his mum on the phone live on TV.

Paula answered the phone and said she had just been to see a play. Carragher then told her she was live on American TV, to which she replied: "You're joking me!"

Richards, who often shares banter with Carragher that goes viral on social media, then took the phone to say hello, introducing himself as "Big Meeks" and asking if she know who he was.

"Oh get away, I feel embarrassed now," she replied, while laughing. Carragher then told his mum who he was with, before Arsenal legend Henry said: "Hello mummy, how are you?"

The studio then broke into laughter when Paula was heard calling the Frenchman "Tiary". Carragher's mum then apologised and said her goodbyes, admitting she had enjoyed a few drinks during her evening out.

She signed off by saying: "Good night America." The incident has gone viral online with fans on social media, one saying: "Jamie Carragher's mum sounds right sound!"

Another added: "Legend Paula," and one said: "Tiary cracked me up! How lovely was that!" A fourth said: "That spontaneous segment made my day," and another added: "This might be one of the most wholesome moments in the history of live TV."
