Liverpool must drop four players vs Wolves to get FA Cup revenge
Liverpool have a chance for immediate revenge against Wolves when the two teams go head-to-head for the second time in three days tonight. The Reds travel to Molineux in the fifth round of the FA Cup after losing 2-1 to a 94th-minute Andre goal in the Premier League at the same stadium on Tuesday night. That result ended a streak of four wins across all competitions for Arne Slot's team.
And they will be desperate to get back to winning ways this evening. Slot will be tempted to name the exact same line-up as the one that lost in the league. But with another four massive matches left this month, and Florian Wirtz the only player expected to return from injury for any of those games, some rotation is a must. Express Sport looks at four changes we think the Dutchman should make in Wolverhampton...
Joe Gomez in, Ibrahima Konate out
Ibrahima Konate has actually been one of Liverpool's best players in 2026. He was somewhat culpable for Wolves' opening goal earlier this week but the Frenchman has had some outstanding performances this calendar year. Still, the Reds should rest Konate here.
He will be needed to start in Liverpool's next four games - home-and-away Champions League legs against Galatasaray as well as Premier League games against Tottenham and Brighton. This match represents a chance to bring Joe Gomez into the starting XI at centre-half. The Englishman has only made 10 starts all season and is deserving of an 11th here. In addition, Gomez can also offer a long-throw threat if needed.
Andy Robertson in, Milos Kerkez out
Also an experienced veteran, Andy Robertson is another who should come into the team. Kerkez, like Konate, is probably going to start all of Liverpool's next four and the Scot has had to settle for substitute cameos for most of this campaign. He is due a start and his last two both yielded clean sheets.
Dropping Kerkez is not so much a damning indictment of the Hungarian summer signing. He has actually improved considerably since a sluggish start to his career on Merseyside. But it is a reflection that Robertson, 31, deserves at least an hour of football.
Curtis Jones in, Ryan Gravenberch out
Ryan Gravenberch turned in a woeful 45-minute performance in midweek. It was no surprise the Dutchman, on a yellow card, was substituted at half-time. Slot may ask Gravenberch to go out and prove it was just an off night. But we think Curtis Jones should come into the side.
Jones scored in the previous round of the FA Cup, a 3-0 win over Brighton at Anfield, and replaced Gravenberch at half-time on Tuesday. The 25-year-old has plenty to prove himself, and can slot into the No.10 role to allow Dominik Szoboszlai to play deeper.
Rio Ngumoha in, Cody Gakpo out
Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo were both massively underwhelming at Wolves earlier this week. But with Federico Chiesa struggling to make an impact in recent starts, Salah starts at right wing and is under pressure to improve considerably on his last showing despite scoring.
Steven Gerrard demanded that Rio Ngumoha replace Gakpo on the left wing, and we concur. The teenager offers more direct 1vs1 threat than Gakpo and was influential in his 30-minute cameo a few days ago. He started in the last round and simply has to come into the team here.
Our Liverpool line-up to face Wolves:
Bench: Mamardashvili, Konate, Kerkez, Ramsay, Gravenberch, Nyoni, Morrison, Chiesa, Gakpo
