In an interview with Provoke Lifestyle magazine, Viswanathan shared his conversation with his grandson Noah and made a statement that instantly grabbed attention: “No, he is not retiring for this IPL.” When pressed further about Dhoni’s long-term plans, he added with a smile, “I’ll check with him and let you know.”

The 2025 IPL season was one to forget for CSK. Despite being five-time champions, the team managed to secure only four victories out of 14 matches, finishing at the bottom of the table for the first time in its history. However, the news of Dhoni’s continuation has reignited hope among supporters who believe the veteran leader can guide the team back to its winning ways.

Over the years, Dhoni has transformed CSK into one of the most dominant franchises in IPL history. Under his leadership, the team has lifted the trophy five times - in 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, and 2023 - and made it to the playoffs in most seasons. His calm demeanour, sharp cricketing mind, and ability to inspire confidence have made him a legend both on and off the field.

Recently, Dhoni himself offered a glimpse into his thought process regarding the future. At an event, during an interaction with Harsha Bhogle, he said, “Well, it depends. Again, I would say the same thing - I have four or five months to decide.”

He further added, “You know, there’s no hurry to decide what is to be done. I’m not saying I’m done, I’m not saying I’m coming back at the same time. I have the luxury of timing, and when you have that, then why not think about it and then decide? Every year, it’s 15 per cent more effort. You have to keep the body fit, not to forget this is top-level cricket. It’s professional cricket - you have to be at your best.”

Dhoni’s words reflect his trademark pragmatism - a leader who never rushes decisions and always puts team and performance above emotion. Despite being 44, the former India captain continues to maintain peak fitness and mental sharpness, proving that age is just a number when it comes to his commitment and discipline.

With IPL 2026 on the horizon, CSK fans are hopeful that “Thala” will once again don the yellow jersey, bringing his trademark calmness and leadership back to the field. Whether it’s his tactical brilliance or the emotional bond he shares with Chennai, one thing is certain - the IPL just wouldn’t feel the same without MS Dhoni.
