Punjab Kings script record chase against Delhi Capitals in IPL 2026 thriller

New Delhi: The match between Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings at Arun Jaitley Stadium witnessed a record-breaking performance in the IPL 2026 season.

In a high-scoring contest, Delhi Capitals (DC) posted a massive total of 264 for the loss of two wickets after being put in to bat. The innings was powered by a dominant partnership between KL Rahul and Nitish Rana.

Rahul scored 152 runs, hitting 16 boundaries and nine sixes, while Rana contributed 91 runs off 44 balls. The duo added 220 runs for the second wicket in 95 deliveries. Rahul’s 152 is the highest score by an Indian batsman in IPL history.

Chasing a target of 265, Punjab Kings (PBKS) got off to an aggressive start with quick boundaries and sixes. Openers Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya provided momentum, with Arya scoring 43 runs. Prabhsimran made 76 runs off just 26 balls, giving the team a strong foundation.

After the fall of the first two wickets, Cooper Connolly scored 17 runs before getting out, while Nehal Wadhera added 25 runs.

Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer then played a crucial innings that changed the course of the match. He scored 76 runs off 36 balls, including three boundaries and seven sixes, playing a key role in the chase.

Punjab Kings reached the target in 18.5 overs, losing four wickets. The team secured a six-wicket victory over Delhi Capitals, registering the highest successful run chase in IPL history.

With this win, Punjab Kings broke their own previous record of 261 runs set against Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2024. The victory also kept the team unbeaten in IPL 2026 so far.

Prabhsimran Singh provided Punjab Kings with a strong start in their challenging chase of 265 against Delhi Capitals. The opener played an aggressive innings, scoring 76 runs off just 26 balls, including five sixes and nine boundaries.

Six of those boundaries came in a single over bowled by DC pacer Mukesh Kumar. Singh reached his half-century in 18 balls with a shot through the cover-point region on the first delivery of the over. He then hit four consecutive boundaries through mid-wicket, cover, and third man. The last two balls of the over also went for fours.

With this feat, Singh became only the third player in IPL history to hit six fours in an over, joining Prithvi Shaw and Ajinkya Rahane.
