Detroit Red Wings forward Alex DeBrincat and his wife Lyndsey DeBrincat have welcomed a new member to their family. The couple shared the happy news this week after the birth of their third child, a baby boy named Leighton Alexander, who was born on December 5. The announcement was made on Friday through Lyndsey’s Instagram, where she posted a set of warm family photos from the hospital.

Lyndsey kept the message short and heartfelt. In her post, she wrote, “Our third perfect boy Leighton Alexander 12.5.2025.” The pictures showed a proud and emotional moment for the family, as their two older sons met their baby brother for the first time. In one touching photo, Alex DeBrincat held their oldest son while Leighton rested in a hospital bassinet nearby. Other images showed Lyndsey gently holding the newborn while Alex smiled beside her.

With Leighton’s arrival, the DeBrincat family is now a family of five. Their first son, Archie, was born in May 2022, and their second son, Maverick, arrived in February 2024. Alex and Lyndsey have been together for nearly a decade. They began dating in 2015 and got married on July 31, 2021. The photos shared online captured a quiet and loving moment in their lives, far from the ice but full of meaning.

Alex DeBrincat shares family joy while focused on Team USA Olympic dream
While enjoying a special time at home, Alex DeBrincat is also thinking about his future on the ice. Earlier this season, the Detroit Red Wings forward said he hopes to represent the United States at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milano Cortina. He believes he deserves a spot but also understands how deep the American talent pool is.

DeBrincat was not included among the 44 players invited to the U.S. Olympic Orientation Camp in August, which took place near his home outside Detroit. Speaking honestly, he said the decision frustrated him. However, he confirmed that he later spoke with Bill Guerin, the general manager for USA Hockey.

“I believe I should be on that team,” DeBrincat said, as quoted by team media. “I feel good right now. At the same time, there are a lot of great players, and tough choices have to be made.”

Guerin explained how difficult those choices were, and DeBrincat responded by saying he would let his play speak for itself. He knows the staff may question his size and whether he can fit into a smaller role. At 5-foot-8, DeBrincat does not kill penalties for Detroit and owns a career minus-59 rating. Still, he believes he has grown defensively and can adjust when needed.

“I don’t think I play soft,” he said. “I can grind and defend, even with less ice time.”

Red Wings head coach Todd McLellan has also spoken highly of DeBrincat, saying his game stays steady no matter where he plays in the lineup. That consistency, McLellan said, is valuable for any team.

Between welcoming a new child and pushing for an Olympic spot, Alex DeBrincat is living a season filled with pride, pressure, and purpose.
