Shreyas Iyer Hospitalised In Sydney ICU After Major Injury, Report Reveals It ‘Could’ve Been Fatal’

Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer’s recent injury during the third ODI against Australia in Sydney sent shockwaves across the cricketing community. What initially appeared to be a minor on-field collision turned into a medical emergency that could have been fatal. Iyer, India’s ODI vice-captain , suffered internal bleeding after injuring his rib cage while taking a spectacular catch, leading to his immediate admission to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in Sydney.

A Brilliant Catch That Led to Crisis

During the third ODI, Iyer displayed exceptional athleticism when he ran backward from backward point to dismiss Alex Carey. However, moments after completing the catch, he appeared in discomfort, clutching his left rib cage. Though he initially tried to continue, his pain intensified after returning to the dressing room. Medical personnel noticed fluctuations in his vital signs and decided not to take any risks, rushing him to the hospital for further evaluation.

Internal Bleeding Discovered After Tests

Once in the hospital, Iyer underwent a series of scans that revealed internal bleeding caused by the impact on his ribs. According to a source quoted by PTI, “Shreyas has been in ICU for the past couple of days. After the reports came in, internal bleeding was detected, and he had to be admitted immediately.” Doctors decided to keep him under strict observation to prevent the spread of infection and manage the bleeding effectively. The seriousness of the situation became clear when the report suggested the injury “could have been fatal” if not treated promptly.
