Support Mounts for Rohit Sharma's India T20I Return Ahead of IPL 2026

The time period of two years which has passed since Rohit Sharma participated in his most recent T20I match for India has not decreased the desire that his fans and cricket experts have to witness him play in this format. Rohit maintains his status as a crucial player for Mumbai Indians in the IPL because of his ongoing success in international cricket.

Rohit became the second Indian captain to win the T20 World Cup, and his shift in playing style played a major role in India’s success in T20 cricket. The team entered a new phase after his retirement because they started to use new openers while replacing core players who had been part of the team.

India achieved strong performance in the T20 World Cup 2026 despite his absence as Suryakumar Yadav led the team to a dominant victory against New Zealand which resulted in their championship win.

The former T20I captain has lost his fanbase except for Indian supporters who still maintain their support for him. The former Chennai Super Kings player believes that Rohit continues to lead successfully while he can still perform T20I matches for India.

Subramaniam Badrinath believes that Rohit can still win a T20I spot even though he has reached this point in his professional development. He called the Mumbai Indians opening combination of Rohit and Quinton de Kock "intimidating" to face.

Badrinath supports Rohit because he still plays competitive cricket at 38 years old. Rohit maintains his fitness level to compete in the entire IPL season, and he has transformed his T20 batting style during the past two years. Before 2022, his playing style involved slower gameplay, which resulted in both his personal performance and team success being negatively affected.

Rohit changed his batting style after India lost their match in the 2022 T20 World Cup. His batting style changed from playing as the team's front-line batsman to becoming a highly effective opening batsman.

His recent IPL performances show this transformation because he achieved strike rates of 149 and 150 during his last two seasons. Badrinath believes that Rohit Martin can still succeed as a T20I opener despite his difficulties.

Rohit Sharma delivered excellent performances in the last two IPL seasons, but the upcoming edition carries great importance as his place in the 2027 World Cup remains uncertain. His ODI legacy assures him no selection for the upcoming match because head coach Gautam Gambhir will evaluate both his and Virat Kohli performance.

Rohit has retired from Test matches and T20 International matches but now dedicates his career to One Day International matches. To remain prepared for matches he needs to play well during the IPL because his performance in IPL 2026 will determine his chances to join Indias World Cup team.
