Tennis LIVE: Miami Open upsets continue as Coco Gauff gets unusual coaching advice
It's crunch time at the Miami Open. On the women's side, we're already at the quarter-final stage. Florida native Coco Gauff has reached the last eight for the first time in her career, while teenage sensation Victoria Mboko faces recent Doha champion Karolina Muchova for a place in the semis.
Gauff outlasted Sorana Cirstea in three sets on Monday. Their fourth-round match was halted due to a medical emergency in the stands, before the No. 4 seed claimed a 6-4 3-6 6-2 victory. She then told the crowd that she listened to a tweet that told her to come to the net more often, and it worked perfectly on match point.
Meanwhile, the men's round-of-16 matches will be completed on Tuesday. It's already been a tournament full of upsets, with world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz, reigning champion Jakub Mensik, recent Indian Wells runner-up Daniil Medvedev, and seventh seed Felix Auger-Aliassime all going out in recent days. Mensik lost to Frances Tiafoe in a marathon final-set tiebreak that lasted almost 20 minutes. Tiafoe must now return to face Terence Atmane, who stunned Auger-Aliassime.
