Virat Kohli becomes second batter with 14,500 ODI runs: Stats

Virat Kohli, India's batting stalwart, has added another feather to his cap by becoming just the second player in history to complete 14,500 runs in ODIs.

He achieved this milestone with his eighth run in the third and final ODI against South Africa in Visakhapatnam.

Meanwhile, Kohli joined the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, who bid adieu to the 50-over format with a staggering 18,426 runs.

An average of over 58

Kohli, who scored tons in the first two ODIs of the ongoing series, has now gone past 14,500 runs from 308 games at an average of over 58.

No other batter with at least 2,000 ODI runs averages even 57, as per ESPNcricinfo.

Meanwhile, Kohli has 75 fifties and 53 tons in the format, with his best score being 183 vs Pakistan in 2012.

Only player with over 50 ODI tons

Kohli holds the record for smashing the most centuries in ODI cricket.

He surpassed the long-standing record of Tendulkar with his 50th ton during the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup.

The latter smacked 49 ODI tons in his career. No other batter even has 35 ODI hundreds.

Meanwhile, Kohli now owns 53 ODI hundreds - the most for any player in a single format.

Kohli's exceptional record in ODI run-chases

Kohli's record in ODI run-chases is also worth noting.

He is the only cricketer to have scored over 20 centuries (28) in such situations.

24 of Kohli's tons have come in successful run-chases.

At home, Kohli has scored over 6,500 runs at 61-plus.

While he has tallied 5,468 runs in away games at 54.13, his average rises to 60.04 in neutral matches (2,462 runs).

Kohli's purple patch in 2018

In 2018, Kohli became the fourth Indian batter with 10,000 ODI runs.

To date, he remains the fastest to reach this landmark (205 innings). Kohli's average on completing his 10,000th run was 59.62.

Interestingly, the Indian batter took just 11 innings to go from 9,000 to 10,000 runs.

He is also the fastest to 8,000, 9,000, 11,000, 12,000, 13,000, and 14,000 runs.
