Why Sherfane Rutherford Went Off the Field vs England in T20 World Cup 2026
The West Indies supporters experienced a distressing event during the Group C match between England and West Indies at the T20 World Cup 2026. Sherfane Rutherford who produced an outstanding performance had to leave the field as he sustained an injury during his fielding efforts at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
The event took place during the 11.4 over of England’s batting innings. Gudakesh Motie bowled a short ball outside off stump to Harry Brook. Brook went on the back foot and pulled the ball wide of deep mid-wicket. Rutherford executed a full dive to his left side in an attempt to stop the boundary hit.
The ball resulted in four runs but Rutherford's landing position raised greater worries. He appeared to fall awkwardly on his right hand. He started to experience pain after the dive when he reached for his right wrist. Jason Holder helped him get back on his feet as the physio rushed onto the ground.
