Will Rohit Sharma Miss MI's Next IPL Game Against the Punjab Kings? Here is the Latest Update

Newspoint

One of the most successful teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL) history, the Mumbai Indians, is struggling with its form. They lost their third consecutive match of IPL 2026, losing by 18 runs against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, marking their first home defeat for the team.

More than their defeat, the major headache the team faces right now is the injury concern of their former skipper Rohit Sharma, who was forced to retire hurt after a hamstring injury when he was batting at 19. As reported by Cricbuzz, the former MI skipper is expected to undergo scans to understand the severity of his injury, and his availability for the next IPL match against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) will surely depend on the results of those scans.

Rohit Sharma looked in good touch against RCB on Sunday, but unfortunately couldn’t bat long enough. He scored 19 runs off 13 deliveries, including two fours and a six. Sharma himself had called out for a substitute player after facing the second delivery of Rasikh Salam in the final power play.

MI’s physio had attended Rohit Sharma before the first delivery of that over.. This eventually led to a long pause in the game before the batter continued to face the second delivery. However, the current status of his injury is still not known, and it will be decided if he is ready in time to play the next match against the Punjab Kings on April 16.

Meanwhile, the Mumbai Indians lost their third consecutive game of the tournament. The Hardik Pandya-led side will need to rethink their strategies before their next match and come up with a revamped plan. While their batting might look deeper on paper, they are yet to click as a unit. Despite having Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult, and Deepak Chahar in their pace attack, they are clueless in their bowling. One of the reasons behind MI’s struggle is also that their star pacer, Jasprit Bumrah, the right-arm pacer, has been wicketless in the tournament so far, failing to make an impact with the ball.
