The new AirTag is priced at Rs 3,790 for a single unit and Rs 12,900 for a four-pack, similar to the earlier model. It is set to be available for purchase online and in Apple stores later this week.

What’s New in the Second-Generation AirTag

The biggest upgrades to this Apple tracker come in its tracking and sound performance. The device now uses a second-generation Ultra Wideband chip that significantly increases the range and accuracy of Precision Finding. This improved Bluetooth and Ultra Wideband technology lets you locate misplaced items from farther away than before.

The updated AirTag also features a louder built-in speaker, which can be heard from about twice the distance compared to its predecessor. This enhanced speaker makes it easier to find items using sound, even when they are tucked inside couches, bags, or other hard-to-reach places.

In a notable change, Apple now allows users to locate AirTags using an Apple Watch for the first time. This feature requires an Apple Watch Series 9, Ultra 2, or later model.

How the AirTag Works With Apple’s Find My Network

Like the earlier version, the AirTag works through Apple’s Find My app so users can track their items across iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch. When a lost item comes within Bluetooth range of another Apple device, its location is updated and sent securely back to the owner.

To set up and use the new AirTag, users must have a compatible iPhone or iPad running iOS 26 or later, and be signed into an Apple account with iCloud enabled. The AirTag continues to rely on Apple’s vast Find My network to provide location data.

Design and Compatibility

Although the AirTag has received significant internal upgrades, its external design remains unchanged. This means all existing accessories like key rings and holders are fully compatible with the new model.

The compact, circular form factor makes it easy to attach the AirTag to everyday items, while its performance upgrades help improve the chances of finding items quickly.

Tracking, Travel, and Safety Considerations

Apple’s AirTag has become a widely used tracking tool among Apple users, especially travellers and people who often misplace items. The company’s technology allows users to tie custom messages and contact numbers to tags, which can help someone contacting you if an item is found.

Over time, Apple has also partnered with airlines and other services to improve item tracking, especially for lost luggage.

At the same time, tracking devices like AirTags have been involved in broader conversations about privacy. Some concerns have arisen around the misuse of Bluetooth trackers, although Apple has designed the AirTag specifically for tracking objects, not people.

Availability and Pricing in India

The new AirTag with enhanced tracking range and louder speaker is now available for preorder through Apple’s online store and the Apple Store app in India. It will be available later this week at Apple Store locations and authorised resellers.

With its improved features and continued support within the Apple ecosystem, the AirTag remains a useful gadget for users who want an easy way to track everyday items.
