Apple to introduce AI photo editing tools and Siri camera mode in iOS 27
Apple is all set to unveil its the next version of its iOS operating system— iOS 27 at the upcoming WWDC 2026. Now a report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reveal that the company is also preparing for a significant update to its Photos app in iOS 27. As per the report, the Cupertino-based tech giant is expected to introduce advanced AI-powered photo editing tools along with a new Siri camera mode . The upcoming feature codenamed as Rave will come with upgraded Apple Intelligence which will enable the users to extend, enhance and reframe images directly within the Photos app.

The report adds that these tools are designed to simplify complex edits, allowing everyday users to perform professional-level adjustments with minimal efforts. The move highlights Apple’s focus on embedding artificial intelligence into core apps, making editing more intuitive and accessible.
Google and Samsung have been doing this for years
Google has offered Magic Eraser, Photo Unblur, and generative image expansion on Pixel devices for years now. Samsung, meanwhile, has leaned heavily on AI editing to differentiate its Galaxy lineup even when the cameras themselves barely change. Photoshop has had photo extension for nearly three years. Apple, by comparison, still only has Clean Up—and that tool has struggled since launch, frequently producing distorted fills where a removed object used to be.
These new tools aren't guaranteed to arrive complete. Extend and Reframe have reportedly been unreliable in development, meaning both could be delayed or quietly scaled back before iOS 27 ships. That's not an unfamiliar pattern: Apple Intelligence features have had a habit of missing their original windows. Apple has until its typical September release to get things working, but the margin for another stumble is getting thin.
Siri camera mode
Along with the new photo editing tools, the Bloomberg report also adds that Apple may also bring a Siri camera mode with iOS 27. Apple is said to be integrating visual intelligence in the camera app. Originally introduced in 2024 with the iPhone 16, this feature allowed users to analyse photos using services like ChatGPT. In iOS 27, it will evolve into a Siri mode within the Camera app, alongside existing photo and video options. This will enable users to capture images and instantly extract useful information such as nutrition details from food packaging or contact information from business cards directly through Siri.
