The sixth World Tour Season has landed in EA FC 26, and with it a host of fresh content - including some intriguing new ideas.

Themed around the 2002 FIFA World Cup in Japan and South Korea, it’s the latest EA FC 26 season to celebrate different eras of the world’s biggest football tournament. After World Tour Season 5’s France 98 rewards, once again the content is related to the competition’s host nations, winners and runners-up.

The first ever and so far only World Cup to be held in Asia is celebrating Japanese and Korean football in style. There are a host of new World Tour player items dotted through the season pass on both the free and premium branches.

There’s also a new batch of World Tour Silver Superstars as expected. However, one new feature coming in the newest season of FC 26 Ultimate Team has truly come out of left-field.

As always, the new FC 26 seasons renew on Thursday mornings. So Season 6 of the World Tour is already live for gamers.

Season 6 released at 8am today, (Thursday, March 12). That’s 11am PT or 2pm EST for American players.

It’ll end at 7.59am on Thursday, April 23 when Season 7 will likely begin. It’s not clear yet what that season will be themed upon, but it’s a safe bet that we’re looking at one from Germany 2006, South Africa 2010, Brazil 2014, Russia 2018 or Qatar 2022.

Groundbreaking new ‘Make Your Idol’ evolution - how it works

The newest feature to EA FC 26’s Ultimate Team is the latest chained evolution. Named ‘Make Your Idol’, it’s a customisable way to create a 91-rated star from either Japan or South Korea.

Once players obtain 1,000 Season Points (SP), they’ll unlock the Make Your Idol pack featuring a host of players from the 2002 World Cup host nations. Gamers pick a player from this or any other Japanese or South Korean star with a maximum overall of 85 rating to put through the evolution chain.

The chain also begins on Level 1 of the free track of the season pass. Once the first stage of the evolution is completed, the chosen player will be 85 rated overall.

The second step comes on level 3, when gamers choose from one of three different branches of the evolution, depending on the position of the player. Once completed, the selected player item moved up to 87 rated overall and gains four star Weak Foot and Skill Moves stats.

Next up is the first PlayStyle+ choice, also on Level 3. Six options are available for this; Tiki Taka, Incisive Pass, Low Driven Shot, Technical, Jockey or Intercept.

At Level 7, the third step of the Make Your Idol chain begins, including three positionally relevant base PlayStyles. The player moves up to 89 overall rated and a second set of PlayStyle+ options are available:

  • Finesse
  • First Touch
  • Pinged Pass
  • Rapid
  • Quick Step
  • Anticipate

The final step comes at Level 21, which transforms the player item into their final stage. More base PlayStyles are available, as well as upgrades to five star Weak Foot and Skill Moves and the concluding overall upgrade to 91 rating.
