EE rivals Sky and Virgin as it drops broadband to 'lowest ever price'

Broadband companies are pushing some great deals at the moment, helping surfers get connected for less. The latest discount from EE takes its price down to its lowest price ever.

EE has cut the price of its broadband to £27.99 a month. That's for Full Fibre 150, which gives a fast connection for streaming and gaming. Plus, for consumers locked into a rival plan elsewhere, EE could pay up to £300 for any charges billpayers get if they leave their other contract early.

The £27.99 price is for the Full Fibre 150 service, and there's no setup fee, but there are price increases during the term of this contract, so it will increase to £31.99 from 31 March 2026 and £35.99 from 31 March 2027.

EE is one of the top-ranking broadband suppliers for customer satisfaction according to the 2024 Ofcom customer satisfaction survey, as we previously reported on The Express. The drop in price brings EE closer to Sky Broadband, which offers its Full Fibre 150 service for £26 a month on a 24-month contract.

Virgin Media is £25.99 a month for a 132Mbps service, again with mid-contract price rises. Those looking for something cheaper could look at Plusnet. Its 145Mbps service is priced at £24.99 a month.

Among all these different suppliers, there is a range of options, and in all cases, it's worth checking that the service is available, as some of them are stipulated by postcodes. For a full fibre service, there will need to be fibre coming into the home, which not all households have.

It's worth looking at the details too, as Virgin Media, for example, offers access to O2 Priority as a perk. This is a great way to be at the front of the queue with some concert tickets. Switching suppliers is also really easy these days, so it's a quick and easy process, but watch out for early termination fees.

When choosing broadband speeds, it's important to consider how it's going to be used and make sure that shoppers aren't paying for speeds that they never need. It's possible to stream 4K content from Netflix on 15Mbps, and many basic internet services will run at that speed too.

If someone in your house is transferring a lot of files (perhaps making videos or sending a lot of large, complex images), then having a faster connection might be of benefit, while games will also want to make sure that there's a fast connection for lag-free gameplay online.

But equally important is Wi-Fi within the home. If the devices can't connect to the broadband because Wi-Fi is bad, then that will cause a bottleneck and lead to a bad experience.
