Google Maps Gets Smarter in India with Gemini AI: New Features Enhance Navigation, Safety, and Local Travel
Google Maps users in India have a new reason to be excited, as the platform now integrates Gemini AI, introducing a more conversational and intuitive experience for drivers and travelers. This integration brings 10 advanced features, including AI-powered navigation, real-time safety alerts, and India-focused travel updates, making Maps more intelligent, context-aware, and tailored to Indian road conditions.
The updated version of Google Maps in India allows users to interact hands-free using Gemini AI. They can now ask questions like “Where’s the nearest petrol pump?” or “Is parking available here?” and receive instant voice replies. The system even supports multi-step commands — for example, finding a restaurant and immediately setting the route. Linked with Gmail and Calendar, it can also suggest travel reminders or meeting routes, creating a seamless digital assistant within the Maps app.
Safety has also been prioritized with new features such as Accident-Prone Area Alerts, currently available in Gurugram, Cyberabad, Chandigarh, and Faridabad. Working with local traffic departments, Maps now provides instant alerts about high-risk zones through both visual and voice prompts. Additionally, nine major Indian cities, including Mumbai, Jaipur, Hyderabad, Lucknow, and Noida, now have integrated Authoritative Speed Limit Data
