Marathon Season 1 roadmap explained, including ranked mode, resets and more
Marathon, the latest shooter from Bungie, is set to launch on March 5, 2026 - but launch day will just be the start of this game’s journey.
Like most online games these days, Marathon will have a live service that sees its developer introduce brand new content every few weeks with the year split up into different seasons. Season 1 will begin the very moment that Marathon launches, with far more content than the server slam first showed us and a lot more in store.
Here’s everything you need to know about the current roadmap for Marathon Season 1:

Marathon Season 1 start and end datesAs mentioned, Marathon Season 1 will begin when the game launches at 5pm GMT on March 5, 2026 .
Bungie estimates that each season will run for around three months, so we’d expect Season 1 to end at some point in June. However, there’s no specific end date for Season 1
Season 2 will then run from June to August, with Season 3 lasting from August to November.
What’s included in Marathon Season 1On top of the three maps, six runner shells and 20 weapons included in Marathon at launch, Bungie is planning to add a bunch of other new content during the course of Season 1. That includes:
New Map - Cryo Archive
Competitive Ranked Mode
C.A.R.R.I. Event
New Gun
Mid-Season Tuning
New Implants
There’s no specific dates on when each of these new features will be arriving in Marathon, so we’ll have to keep our eyes out on Bungie’s socials to learn more. All of the above content will be arriving free of charge.
Like most other extraction shooters, Marathon will have a reset mechanic that sees player progression wiped at regular intervals. Bungie has chosen for each season to represent a new wipe, so you’ll essentially have three months to get your characters as powerful as possible.
Once the season is over, players will lose all of their gear, character progression, and faction progression. The only things that will be kept are any achievements they’ve unlocked and any cosmetic items you may have unlocked or purchased.
While this might be frustrating for long-term players, it should provide a more even playing field for those checking in at the start of each season, and a new opportunity to start the progression system all over again for those with hundreds of hours invested.
