Newspoint

Streaming giant Netflix has announced major changes aimed at making its platform more interactive and future-ready. The company has rolled out a live voting feature for live shows, revealed plans for new AI-powered tools, and confirmed that a redesigned mobile app is on the way.

These updates mark a significant shift in how audiences will engage with Netflix content, especially live programming.

Live voting brings real-time audience power

Netflix has introduced live voting for the first time during the US-based live talent show Star Search

Hero Image
. With this feature, viewers watching the show live can vote in real time to decide which contestants move forward and which are eliminated.

Unlike traditional television voting systems—where results are often announced much later—Netflix’s system displays results instantly. This real-time feedback makes live shows more dynamic and engaging, as viewers directly influence the outcome while the program is still airing.

How and where viewers can vote

Netflix has clarified that live voting works only during the live broadcast

. If a viewer pauses or rewinds the stream, the voting option becomes unavailable. The feature is also not supported on web browsers.

Voting is currently limited to:

  • Smart TVs

  • Streaming devices

  • Netflix mobile apps

During Star Search, viewers were able to rate performances on a one-to-five-star scale and, in certain rounds, directly select winners.

Redesigned mobile app and short-form content push

Netflix is also preparing a major redesign of its mobile app

. Speaking during the company’s Q4 earnings call, Greg Peters said the updated app is designed to support Netflix’s growth strategy over the next decade.

The company plans to expand its short vertical video feature, Moments, and is also considering the addition of video podcasts, signalling a broader push toward bite-sized and mobile-first content.

New AI features on the way

Netflix confirmed it will introduce two AI-driven features

later this year:

  • AI-based subtitle localisation, which aims to preserve the tone, meaning, and cultural context of subtitles across different languages

  • AI-powered content recommendations, designed to better understand user preferences and suggest shows and movies more accurately

These tools are expected to enhance global accessibility and personalise the viewing experience.

Strong financial performance backs innovation

Alongside these announcements, Netflix reported Q4 2025 revenue of $12.05 billion

, marking a 17.6% year-on-year increase. The strong financial results underline the company’s confidence in investing heavily in technology, AI, and interactive content.
