New shooter WARDOGS aims to fill the tactical gap Battlefield 6 left behind

A brand new shooter just got announced from the UK-based team at Bulkhead Interactive, and it could be the game that frustrated Battlefield fans have been looking for.

Dubbed ‘WARDOGS’, the latest shooter is described as a ‘tactical all-out warfare fps’. With a modern setting, it leans heavily on infantry gameplay while also incorporating vehicular combat, including tanks, helicopters and jets.

Matches take place on a single 256km2 map with three teams fighting to take control of a single 2x2km ‘Control Zone’, a press release explains. This area is randomised each match, so no two games ever feel the same when played back to back.

Bulkhead has also implemented a currency system that allows players to spend money in return for loadout upgrades. This can involve purchasing new weapons, attachments and gear, with the latest trailer showing how weapons can be kitted out with various different loadout combinations.

There’s a heavy emphasis on teamplay with additional currency rewarded for everything you do that pushes the team towards victory. Of course, that includes kills - but it can also mean reviving teammates, taxiing teammates to the capture zone, and locking down the objective.

To keep the Battlefield comparisons coming, WARDOGS also appears to have some level of destruction. The press release explains that players can ‘destroy apartment blocks with rocket launchers’, and some buildings can be seen getting levelled in the trailer to back this up.

It’s not all about destruction, though. Certain map locations will allow for the building of fortifications, making it much easier to defend objectives.

Developer Bulkhead makes it clear in its marketing that WARDOGS is not a Battle Royale or an Extraction shooter. Instead, it appears to be a return to a more tactical shooter experience that games such as Battlefield have seemingly left behind.

The news arrives as Battlefield 6 struggles to maintain its playerbase with over 87% of players leaving the game since its launch back in October.

Bulkhead's previous works include Battalion 1944, a historical shooter that aimed to capture the magic of classic Call of Duty titles. The studio also went on to make Killrun, an fps-themed parkour game with a focus on speed-running and replayability.

WARDOGS is available to wishlist now on Steam with early access expected to launch sometime in 2026. There’s currently no word on whether the game is planned for launch on PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S.
