Popular Amazon Fire HD tablet drops by 59% and it'll arrive in time for Christmas
Whether it's for long journeys or an easy distraction for five minutes of peace and quiet, tablets are a fun and practical way to keep children entertained. For those looking to buy or upgrade a device for their little ones, Amazon is running a 59% discount on its Fire HD 8 Kids Pro tablet, knocking its usual £159.99 price down to £64.99.
This device is just as powerful as the standard Fire HD 8, but it has been designed specifically for older children aged six to 12, with handy features like easy-to-use parental controls, safe web browsing, and a robust child-friendly case that comes in teal, Marvel Avengers, or Jungle Cat finishes.
With a vibrant 8-inch HD display and immersive Dolby Atmos sound, it's the perfect device for gaming or watching TV and movies. An ideal present this festive season, it's also one deal which shoppers can guarantee delivery on before the big day, as Amazon confirms it 'arrives 10 days before Christmas'.
That date is for Prime members, if ordered in the next two hours, it could be delivered by 22:00 tonight. For those who order it today without Prime, it would still come before, on December 18.
While it can be used with standard streaming apps like Netflix too, each Fire HD 8 Kids Pro tablet comes with a one-year subscription to Amazon Kids+, which gives access to 'thousands of advert-free films, series, games, apps, books, Audible books, and music stations'. Once the free year has expired, the subscription will automatically renew, with plans starting at £4.99 a month.
Additionally, the Fire HD 8 Kids Pro qualifies for Prime same-day and overnight delivery, so Amazon says it will arrive 12 days before Christmas if shoppers place an order today (December 12). The good news is there's plenty of time to snap one up as a last-minute gift, with typical cut-offs around midday for same-day delivery and 11pm for overnight by 1pm.
Other specs for the device include 2 MP front-facing and 5 MP rear-facing cameras, plus 32GB of internal storage for saving media, which can be expanded up to 1TB with a separate microSD card.
Elsewhere, Currys sells an Acer 10.1-inch kids tablet for £139, which runs on a version of Android with built-in parental controls to keep kids safe as they browse. The device comes with 32GB of storage, which can be expanded with a microSD card, and Acer says the battery will last up to 11 hours at a time.
Another option is this Honor Pad X8a 11-inch kids tablet for £129.99 at Argos, down from £149.99. It has an impressive 128GB of internal storage, plus a Full HD 11-inch display, which has four levels of built-in protection to keep children's eyes safe while using the device.
As for the Fire HD 8 Kids Pro tablet, shoppers have rated it 4.6 out of five on the Amazon website. One shopper said: "Absolutely brilliant, really easy to use, and I love the parental controls."
Another said: "This tablet is excellent, easy to use and very easy to travel with. Great battery life, plus the screen quality is really good. Grandson had a cheaper version but got very frustrated with it buffering, but we have had no problems with this one."
Another said: "Bought one for all of our grandchildren, and we have ten of them. Very sturdy and easy for them to use, great picture quality, very well designed with a good screen size, and the pull-out stand is excellent."
One gave their feedback in a four-star review, saying: "The kids' profile feature is a bit fiddly, and I was not happy that you have to pay a subscription fee, but overall, it's a good product." Another said that it was an 'excellent replacement' for an out-of-warranty model, but recommended shoppers buy their own case to go with it.
