Rockstar Games confirms data breach, read hacker's 'open threat' message to GTA maker
Rockstar Games, the studio behind one of the most successful video game franchises Grand Theft Auto (GTA) has confirmed it suffered a data breach after a hacking group issued a public threat demanding payment or promising to leak stolen data. The group, known as ShinyHunters , posted a message on the dark web warning the GTA maker to make contact before April 14, 2026 — or face the consequences. The breach was traced to Rockstar's Snowflake servers and reportedly gained through a vulnerability linked to analytics company Anodot. Confirming the incident, Rockstar said only a "limited amount of non-material company information" was accessed.

Hacker’s message to Rockstar Games
According to a report by Cybersec Guru and Hackread, the hacker group said that it had gained access to Rockstar’s Snowflake servers. The hacking group posted a message on dark web which said:
“Rockstar Games, your Snowflake instances were compromised thanks to Anodot.com. Pay or leak. This is a final warning to reach out by 14 Apr 2026 before we leak, along with several annoying (digital) problems that’ll come your way. Make the right decision, don’t be the next headline.”
Rockstar Games confirms the breach
The GTA maker confirmed the data breach to Kotaku. Rockstar Games spokesperson told the publication:
“We can confirm that a limited amount of non-material company information was accessed in connection with a third-party data breach. This incident has no impact on our organization or our players.”
What is ShinyHunters
ShinyHunters hacking group that attacked Rockstar Games has previously targeted Google, Microsoft, among others. Rather than using complex technical exploits, the group targets identity systems, API keys, and third-party integrations to gain what looks like legitimate access.
In March this year, ShinyHunters claimed to have obtained Salesforce-linked data affecting more than 400 companies. It has since published data from 26 of those organisations, lending credibility to its claims. List of the group’s victims include technology giant Google, Microsoft, Cisco, Dutch telecoms providers Ben.nl and Odido NL, Canadian carrier Telus, the European Commission, and consumer platforms including SoundCloud, Crunchbase, and Betterment.
