Samsung Bridges the Gap: Galaxy S26 Gets AirDrop-Like File Sharing for iPhones
In a significant move aimed at improving cross-platform connectivity, Samsung has introduced a new feature in its Galaxy S26 series that allows seamless file sharing with Apple devices — much like Apple’s AirDrop.
The update marks a major step toward reducing long-standing compatibility barriers between Android and iOS ecosystems.
AirDrop-Like Experience Comes to Galaxy S26Samsung’s latest software update enables Galaxy S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra users to send photos, videos, and files directly to nearby iPhones, iPads, and Macs — without requiring third-party apps or cables.
The feature is powered by an enhanced version of Quick Share
- February 2026 security patch
- Update size of over 700MB
- Improved Quick Share functionality
Users can download the update via Settings > Software Update. Once installed, the upgraded Quick Share feature becomes available.
How It WorksThe process is designed to be simple and wireless:
- Galaxy users can select files and use Quick Share
- Nearby Apple devices with AirDrop enabled will appear
- Files can be transferred instantly without apps or cables
However, for successful transfers, the receiving Apple device must have its AirDrop visibility set to “Everyone.”
Currently, the feature rollout has begun in South Korea (from March 23, 2026) and is expected to expand to other regions, including Europe, the Americas, and Asia, in the coming weeks.
To use the feature, users must ensure:
- Latest firmware update is installed
- Updated Google Play Services
- Latest version of the Quick Share app
Without these updates, the functionality may not work properly.
A Step Toward Ecosystem IntegrationFor years, seamless file sharing has been a key advantage of Apple’s tightly integrated ecosystem. Samsung’s move to bring similar functionality across platforms signals a shift toward greater interoperability in the smartphone industry.
If widely adopted and refined, this feature could significantly enhance user convenience — especially for those who frequently switch between Android and iOS devices.
