Two new Battlefield 6 maps teased for Season 2 - one is a returning classic
Battlefield Studios has issued an update on the future of Battlefield 6 with it teasing two new maps set to arrive in the upcoming season.
Over on the Battlefield Comms account, the studio has teased a brand new map called ‘Contaminated’. An early image appears to show the slopes of a mountainous region, with both aerial and infantry combat mentioned in its description.
In terms of how large it’s set to be, Battlefield Studios writes, "Contaminated falls between Eastwood and Mirak Valley, and is comparable to classic Battlefield maps such as St. Quentin Scar (Battlefield 1) or Arras (Battlefield V).”

An early look at the map's layout is already making the rounds online with players breaking the Battlefield Labs NDA. It looks to feature six capture points spread across a forested region.
The map will go live on the Battlefield Labs testing platform later this week with it set to arrive at some point during Season 2. With the Battlefield community clamouring for larger maps that include jets, it could be just what the game needs.
That’s not all, though. Another map is coming soon to Battlefield 6 that’s set to be its ‘largest ever’ - and veteran players might recognise it.
Golmud Railway was one of Battlefield 4’s most iconic maps with it set on a gently sloping hill in northwest China. Its capture points catered to a variety of gameplay styles with destructible residential areas and a construction site to the south.
A huge railway line struck through the middle of the map and was home to the map’s gimmick of the time. The ‘C’ capture point was onboard a train, and whichever team had it captured would see the train move slowly towards their spawn point.
Speaking about how Golmud Railway is being re-imagined for Battlefield 6, the blog post says,”Golmud Railway is being rebuilt for today’s Battlefield, not simply ported forward. Our goal is to preserve what made the map so memorable in Battlefield 4, particularly its combined arms gameplay, while improving how it plays and supports Battlefield 6 systems.
“Golmud is planned to be the largest Battlefield 6 map to date, giving us the opportunity to expand gameplay on a larger scale.”
In terms of changes, Battlefield Studios is looking to expand the flight space of the map, providing more cover for aircraft, as well as more opportunity for the map to evolve throughout the course of a match.
Gamers on Reddit have also suggested that the map should be updated to make it more friendly for infantry players, too. “I am all in for some tweaks. This map desperately needs some love for infantry,” writes on Redditor.
Another adds, “As an infantry main, this was never my favorite map but I’m happy for the map diversity we’ll be getting because this game needs it.”
There’s no word on when the map is expected to make it into the final game. While many fans will hope it’s slated for Season 2, it could well slip back to future seasons if Labs testing deems it necessary.
The update on Season 2 arrives shortly after it was delayed by a month from January to February. A new Battle Pass track and weekly challenges were added to the game to make up for the delay, but it doesn’t appear to have stopped the number of players haemorrhaging from the game.
Over on Steam, the number of daily average players has dropped from over 120,000 to 65,000 since the start of January.
Season 2 of Battlefield 6 is set to start on February 17, 2026.
