WhatsApp is working on a brand-new feature that could change the way users manage missed calls. According to WABetaInfo, the Meta-owned messaging platform is testing a voicemail-style function that allows users to instantly leave a voice message whenever their call goes unanswered.
The feature is currently being rolled out in WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.25.23.21, with availability limited to select beta testers for now.
Voice Messages After Missed Calls
With this update, users will see a dedicated option at the bottom of the call interface, prompting them to leave a quick voice note if the call isn’t picked up. The same option will also appear directly in the chat where the missed call is displayed, ensuring a seamless and context-aware experience.
Once the voice note is recorded, it is automatically sent within the conversation, while the missed call alert still remains visible. This ensures the recipient knows both about the missed call and the accompanying message.
This voicemail-like feature is expected to improve communication convenience, particularly when urgent updates or explanations need to be shared without waiting for another call or typing a long text.
WhatsApp’s Ongoing Updates to Calls
This isn’t the first upgrade to WhatsApp’s calling experience. Recently, the app introduced new tools such as call scheduling, group call invites, expanded participant previews, and reactions during calls. Users can even raise their hand to signal they want to speak, making group conversations more interactive and organised.
These improvements reflect WhatsApp’s ongoing effort to make both voice and video calls more efficient, engaging, and inclusive.
