WhatsApp Users May Soon Get Profile Cover Photos Feature – Here’s How It Works

WhatsApp is getting ready to make user profiles more expressive. The Meta-owned messaging platform is reportedly working on a new feature that will allow users to add a cover photo to their profiles, similar to what we see on Facebook and LinkedIn. The update was spotted by feature tracker WABetaInfo and is currently under development.

So far, WhatsApp profiles have been limited to a display picture, name, and About section. Cover photos were available only for WhatsApp Business accounts. Now, that could change. If the feature rolls out, regular users will also be able to showcase a wide image at the top of their profile, adding more personality and visual flair.

What the WhatsApp Cover Photo Feature Will Offer

The upcoming feature is expected to add a dedicated space above the profile picture where users can upload a wide image from their phone’s gallery. This cover photo will sit prominently above the name and About section and can be changed or removed anytime.

Privacy remains a key focus. Users will likely get multiple visibility options—show the cover photo to everyone, only saved contacts, or no one at all. There may also be an option to hide it from specific contacts, giving users full control over who sees what.

According to reports, the feature is being tested for both Android and iOS versions, but there’s no official word yet on its public rollout.

Useful WhatsApp Privacy Features You Should Know

Alongside new visual upgrades, WhatsApp continues to offer strong privacy tools. The Privacy Checkup helps users quickly manage profile visibility. Disappearing messages reduce long-term chat exposure, while two-step verification adds an extra layer of account security.

Users can also lock the app or individual chats, enable Advanced Chat Privacy, turn off read receipts, and stop automatic media downloads to better protect personal data and storage.

With profile cover photos on the way, WhatsApp seems set to blend personal expression with privacy, making profiles both stylish and secure.
