Zomato Increases Platform Fee to ₹14.90 per Order from ₹12.50
Food delivery giant Zomato has increased the platform fee it charges customers, raising it from Rs 12.50 to Rs 14.90 per order.
This marks a hike of Rs 2.40 per order, according to details available on the company’s app. The platform fee is calculated on a pre-GST basis and is added to every food delivery order.
With the new update, the fee now stands at Rs 14.90 per order, reflecting a steady upward trend in pricing over time.
Both companies have historically followed similar pricing strategies when it comes to platform charges, often adjusting fees in response to market conditions.
At the same time, new competition is emerging. Urban mobility startup Rapido has entered the food delivery segment with its service “Ownly” in Bengaluru.
Rapido has stated that it will not charge any additional fees apart from the delivery fee, which could put pressure on existing players in the market.
Higher fuel prices directly impact delivery operations, affecting restaurants as well as delivery partners associated with these platforms.
To manage these increasing costs and maintain margins, companies are gradually passing on a part of the burden to customers through platform fees.
Even though the increase per order may seem small, it can add up over time, especially for frequent users of food delivery apps.
At the same time, growing competition and evolving pricing strategies suggest that the food delivery landscape in India is entering a new phase.
