YouTube: Now your 'avatar' will create videos! Creators will be able to clone themselves, this special feature is coming soon..
YouTube CEO Neal Mohan has announced a major update regarding the platform's future. He stated that creators will now be able to generate Short videos by creating AI digital twins. This move will not only simplify content creation but also pose a significant challenge to apps like OpenAI's Sora. YouTube also unveiled important features such as AI content labeling and screen time controls for teenagers. Although the launch date hasn't been revealed yet, this is considered YouTube's biggest AI update to date.
Direct Competition for OpenAI's Sora
This new feature could be quite similar to OpenAI's Sora app, where users can create a photorealistic 3D avatar by providing a short selfie video and audio recording. The AI then generates videos using that avatar. This move by YouTube shows that the company doesn't want to be left behind in the AI video race and wants to make Shorts even more powerful. Neal Mohan also clarified that this feature is not intended to replace creators. He said that AI will be a tool for expression, not a replacement. In other words, YouTube wants AI to empower creators, not cause them to lose their jobs.
A Strong Plan to Combat Deepfakes
While AI will make video creation easier, it will also increase the risk of low-quality content. To address this, Neal Mohan made two major announcements:
Mandatory Labeling: If a video is created using AI, it will be mandatory to label it as synthetic content.
Smart Filters: YouTube is updating its existing spam-filtering system to prevent repetitive and low-quality AI content from flooding the feed.
Zero Timer and Safety for Children
YouTube is becoming even safer for families. The company is introducing a control that will allow parents to determine how much time their children spend on Shorts. If they wish, they can set the timer to zero, preventing children from watching Shorts altogether. This feature is considered a significant step towards digital well-being. New Games for Creators
YouTube doesn't want to be limited to just videos. Now, creators will be able to create simple games by simply typing text prompts (such as "create a racing game") and sharing them with their subscribers. Additionally, with AI auto-dubbing in over 20 languages, an Indian creator can now easily reach American or Japanese audiences.
A Record of 200 Billion Views Daily
YouTube is being viewed 200 billion times every day. Its success can be gauged from its viewership. YouTube now wants to take it far beyond Instagram Reels and TikTok by adding features like image posts and Dream Screen, which uses AI-generated backgrounds.
