Amid Hormuz Crisis, India May Get First Delivery Of Iranian Crude Oil After 7 Years

India may soon receive its first direct shipment of Iranian crude oil since 2019, reflecting a notable shift in its energy strategy amid the West Asia crisis. A tanker carrying nearly 6 lakh barrels of crude is reported to be heading to Vadinar in Gujarat’s Deendayal Port by April 4. This comes as New Delhi continues to rely on discounted Russian crude, despite previous US criticism. While ship tracking data indicated the vessel’s movement, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways stated it had “no specific information” about the cargo. The move underscores India’s efforts to diversify energy sources and secure supply chains amid global tensions and disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz.
