Election Commission Blocks 68 Lakh Cyber Attacks; ECINET Handles Record Traffic on Counting Day
On counting day of the recent assembly elections, the Election Commission of India successfully countered over 68 lakh malicious cyber hits targeting its online platforms, including the results portal. Despite the massive digital surge, ECINET — the Commission’s integrated election management platform — handled an average of 3 crore hits per minute, ensuring smooth and uninterrupted access to election data. The platform, which integrates over 40 election-related services, has already crossed 10 crore downloads since its launch in January 2026. In a major security upgrade, over 3.2 lakh QR codes were generated to regulate access to counting centres, allowing only authorised personnel entry. This QR-based system is now set to become standard for future Lok Sabha and state elections. The Election Commission’s robust cybersecurity measures and digital infrastructure highlight a major leap in ensuring transparency, efficiency, and security in India’s electoral process.
