India’s Fourth S-400 System Undergoing Final Trials In Russia, Delivery Expected Soon
India is set to further strengthen its air defence network with the upcoming delivery of its fourth S-400 Triumf system, currently undergoing final testing in Russia. The induction marks another step in building a layered defence architecture designed to counter a wide spectrum of aerial threats. The S-400 system, capable of engaging targets at ranges of up to 400 kilometres, plays a central role in India’s long-range air defence strategy. With three systems already operational, the addition of a fourth unit will enhance coverage across strategic sectors and improve the ability to track and neutralise multiple threats simultaneously, including aircraft, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles. The delivery follows delays linked to disruptions caused by the Russia-Ukraine conflict, which impacted production and logistics timelines. However, the system is now expected to be inducted in the coming months, reinforcing India’s preparedness amid evolving regional security challenges.
