'International Law Must Be Respected': India Urges Restoration Of Safe Navigation In Hormuz At UNGA
India expressed concern at the United Nations over threats to commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, stressing the need to restore safe and free navigation amid rising tensions in the Middle East. At the UN General Assembly debate, India’s Permanent Representative Ambassador Harish P said maritime security is critical for India’s energy and economic stability. He said attacks on commercial vessels during the conflict were deeply concerning and strongly condemned any targeting of civilian maritime activity. India reiterated that freedom of navigation and safety of civilian crew must be protected. The country also called on the international community to uphold international law and ensure uninterrupted movement of trade through the Strait of Hormuz.
