Iran Expresses Confidence In India’s BRICS Presidency Amid West Asia Conflict
Iran’s Ambassador to India, Mohammad Fathali, has said that India can play an important role under its BRICS chairmanship in fostering dialogue and regional stability. His comments come ahead of an upcoming BRICS meeting that will, for the first time since the escalation of the West Asian conflict, bring together Iran and the UAE at the same table. India, which currently holds the BRICS presidency, is attempting to navigate sharp divisions within the grouping over the ongoing regional conflict involving Iran and the US-Israel alliance, with key members such as Saudi Arabia and the UAE holding differing positions. While Tehran has called for BRICS to take a stronger stance, some Gulf states have pushed for criticism of Iran, exposing internal fault lines within the bloc. India has so far maintained a careful balancing approach, refraining from taking sides and focusing instead on building consensus ahead of key ministerial meetings and the summit.
