No Nari Shakti! Women's Bill Fails Lok Sabha Test, Protest Erupt | 'Women Won't Forgive'
The constitutional amendment bill for women’s reservation has failed to secure the required two-thirds majority and is defeated in the Lok Sabha, marking a major setback for the Modi government. Before the voting on the bill, Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a sharp attack on opposition parties during the debate on the three bills related to women’s reservation and delimitation, accusing them of opposing the legislation through “ifs and buts.” He also claimed that those opposing delimitation are, in effect, opposing an increase in SC and ST representation in Parliament. He argued that a narrative is being created suggesting the bills will harm southern states, while presenting data to say that proportional representation will remain largely unchanged even after delimitation. The Union Minister further accused the opposition of showing “fake concern” for backward classes.
