Oil India Posts Record Crude Output From Rajasthan’s Thar Desert Amid West Asia Crisis

Amid global oil market uncertainty, Oil India Ltd has recorded a major production milestone in Rajasthan’s Thar desert. The Jodhpur sandstone formation achieved a record output of 1,202 barrels per day, a nearly 70% increase from last year’s 705 barrels per day. The crude from the Baghewala field in Jaisalmer is transported by tankers to ONGC facilities in Mehsana, Gujarat, and then piped to the Koyali refinery operated by IOCL. In the financial year 2025-26, the Rajasthan field produced 43,773 metric tonnes of crude, up from 32,787 metric tonnes the previous year. Officials credited the growth to advanced techniques like Cyclic Steam Stimulation, noting that the achievement underscores the potential of unconventional resources to enhance India’s energy security and meet growing domestic demand.
