Pakistan Tops Global Terrorism Index With Highest Death Toll, Raises Global Alarm

Pakistan has been ranked the most terrorism-affected country in the Global Terrorism Index 2026 released by the Institute for Economics and Peace, highlighting a sharp rise in violence. The report recorded 1,139 deaths in 2025 across more than a thousand incidents, marking the highest toll since 2013. The Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan was identified as the primary driver of attacks, with its activities intensifying, especially in border regions. Areas like Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan accounted for the majority of casualties, while strained ties with Afghanistan and continued insurgent operations have further worsened the country’s internal security landscape.
