'Political Demonetisation': Shashi Tharoor Blasts Govt For Linking Women Quota To Delimitation

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, speaking in the Lok Sabha on the Women’s Reservation Bill, said there is strong political consensus in favour of the measure and that the era of tokenism must end. However, he raised concerns over linking women’s reservation with delimitation and expansion of Parliament, saying it could delay implementation of a key reform. He warned that delimitation represents a major shift in political balance and could impact India’s federal structure and inter-state representation. Tharoor also said increasing the size of the Lok Sabha without adequate time for parliamentary proceedings could reduce meaningful participation of MPs. He cautioned that such changes require careful consideration and broad national agreement rather than being pushed through in haste.
