Sad Day For Women’: Priyanka Chaturvedi Breaks With INDIA Bloc In Lok Sabha Row
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi expressed disappointment over the defeat of the Women’s Reservation Bill in the Lok Sabha, taking a position that differed from her party’s stand. She said the setback was a blow to women aspiring for greater representation in Parliament and state assemblies. The Constitution Amendment Bill, aimed at implementing women’s reservation by 2029 and expanding the strength of the Lok Sabha, failed to pass in the Lower House. Although 298 MPs voted in favour and 230 opposed it, the bill did not secure the required two-thirds majority. It fell short of 352 votes out of the 528 members who participated in the voting process.
