Indian Super League 2025-26 Season Kicks Off with Exciting Matches
The Indian Super League (ISL), the premier football league in India, is set to commence its 2025-26 season with thrilling opening matches on Saturday. The first game will feature the defending champions, Mohun Bagan Super Giant, facing off against Kerala Blasters FC, both of which are known for their massive fan following. This match will take place at Kolkata's Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan (VYBK), as announced by the league.
A total of 14 clubs will compete in a single-leg round-robin format, culminating in 91 matches. The team accumulating the highest points will be crowned the champion. Following the season opener, AIFF Super Cup champions FC Goa will kick off their campaign against ISL newcomers Inter Kashi at the PJN Stadium in Fatorda, scheduled for 19:30 IST.
Mohun Bagan enters the match as the favorite, retaining most of their championship-winning squad and benefiting from the support of their enthusiastic home crowd.
Head coach Sergio Lobera expressed his excitement, stating, "We are eager to begin the season after a long wait. It's crucial to manage our situation and seize the opportunity to play in front of our fans at home."
Dimi Petratos from Mohun Bagan emphasized the importance of moving forward from past results, saying, "We have the best squad in the country, and we are here to win."
Kerala Blasters, while keeping some key Indian players, have also strengthened their lineup with foreign talent in defense and attack.
Coach David Catala acknowledged the challenge, stating, "We are up against the best team in the league, but in football, anything can happen. We are focused on securing all three points."
The match will showcase top Indian players, including Mohun Bagan's Vishal Kaith and Liston Colaco, against Blasters' Sandeep Singh and Hormipam.
FC Goa vs Inter Kashi
FC Goa, having gained match experience from the AFC Champions League Two, aims to start their season with a victory against ISL debutants Inter Kashi, who earned promotion as the I-League Champions for 2024-2025.
