Newspoint

MI crushed GT by 99 runs in IPL 2026 to secure their 2nd win in six games. They also jumped up to 7th place from 10th. Tilak Varma was the hero with a century while Jasprit Bumrah ended his wicketless streak. But it was Rohit Sharma who stole the show despite not playing the game.

Rohit Sharma’s ‘Captaincy Moment’

Rohit is no longer the captain or vice-captain of MI. He was also not playing the game due to a hamstring injury. But he still had his ‘captaincy moment’ when GT were chasing a target of 200. The hosts only managed 100 though.

Rohit Sharma’s Commitment

Fans were left in awe of his commitment as they saw Rohit rush out into the middle to offer his advice while Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav were in discussion. He jogged out, said what he needed to and then trotted back to the dugout. It certainly won the hearts of the fans.

Take a look at what happened:

Rohit Sharma’s IPL Records

It is not clear when Rohit will return to the playing XI. MI’s next game is vs CSK on April 23. Rohit led MI to five IPL titles and won one with DCH as a player. He shares the record of most titles won as skipper with MS Dhoni and has won the most titles as a player as well. Rohit shares the record of most IPL seasons played with Virat Kohli. But he has played the most as a capped player.

Rohit at the moment has the 2nd most IPL games, runs, catches and sixes. He turns 39 this year so it remains to be seen how many more seasons he plays. At the international level, he is only playing ODIs and hopes to be there for the World Cup in 2027.
