Joe Root Commends Coach Brendon McCullum Amid Ashes Disappointment
Joe Root has expressed high regard for England's head coach Brendon McCullum, calling him one of the finest coaches he has ever collaborated with, despite England's lackluster performance in the recent Ashes series. Root remains hopeful about the team's prospects, especially following their victory in the second ODI against Sri Lanka.
Root's endorsement comes alongside support from teammates Harry Brook and Ben Stokes, as McCullum's role has faced scrutiny after England's significant loss in the Ashes, where they were defeated 4-1 by Australia. "I believe Baz is among the best coaches I've worked with. While we are disappointed with our performance in Australia, I still see a lot of exciting potential in this group," Root stated after England's triumph in the second ODI against Sri Lanka in Colombo.
Root highlighted McCullum's positive influence on his batting, saying, "If you examine my personal game, it has improved significantly since he became coach." Since McCullum took the reins as England's Test coach in 2022, Root has excelled, amassing 16 centuries in 46 Tests, solidifying his status as one of the premier batsmen globally.
"Winning is certainly more enjoyable, but I'm still having the time of my life. I get to engage in what I love daily with an incredible group of individuals, brilliant minds, and experts who help me continuously improve and develop," he added.
