Raghu Sharma Celebrates First IPL Wicket with Emotional Gesture
On Monday, during the Indian Premier League 2026 at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai Indians' leg-spinner Raghu Sharma celebrated his first career wicket in a unique manner. In his second IPL match, he dismissed debutant Akshat Raghuwanshi, marking a significant milestone. The 33-year-old bowler delivered a flighted ball and took a stunning catch off his own bowling.
Following the wicket, Raghu pulled out a piece of paper from his pocket and celebrated by showing it to the crowd. The message he wrote was deeply moving: 'Radhe, Radhe. After 15 painful years, thanks to Gurudev's grace, this moment has arrived. I am grateful for this opportunity. Jai Shri Ram.' In his performance against Lucknow Super Giants, he bowled well, conceding 36 runs and taking one wicket in four overs.
Raghu's Journey in Domestic Cricket
Raghu's path to the IPL has been filled with challenges. Since his debut in 2017, he has played only 30 matches across first-class, List A, and T20 formats. Born in Jalandhar, this leg-spinner represented Punjab and Puducherry, making his first-class debut in the 2017-18 Ranji Trophy, where he took 57 wickets in 12 matches.
Raghu Sharma caught attention during the 2024-25 Vijay Hazare Trophy, where he claimed 14 wickets in eight matches. His big break came in 2025 when Mumbai Indians signed him as a replacement mid-season. Having previously worked as a net bowler for the franchise, he finally got his chance to play in 2026.
Nicholas Pooran's Explosive Performance
In a remarkable display against Mumbai Indians, Nicholas Pooran scored 63 runs off just 21 balls, hitting 8 sixes and 1 four, achieving a strike rate of 300. This marked the second-fastest fifty for Lucknow Super Giants.
