Railway Protection Force Rescues Minors and Vulnerable Passengers in Northeast India
Guwahati, Feb 2: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has successfully rescued twelve individuals, including eight minors, from various stations and trains within the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) network.
These operations spanned five days, concluding on January 28, during which the RPF teams executed a series of well-coordinated rescue missions across multiple railway stations.
The statement highlighted that the RPF was able to locate and assist vulnerable passengers who were either traveling alone or in distress.
The rescued individuals included runaway minors, destitute children, and unattended passengers identified through regular station monitoring and RailMadad complaints.
Key rescue efforts took place at stations such as Falakata, Lumding, Kishanganj, Rangiya, New Bongaigaon, Kamakhya, Katihar (East), and Guwahati.
All minors were safely transferred to relevant Child Line units and recognized child care organizations, while the adults were handed over to local police for further action.
The NFR has encouraged passengers to promptly report any unattended minors or suspicious situations to RPF personnel or via RailMadad for immediate assistance.
In 2025, the RPF under NFR rescued a total of 1,101 children, including 802 boys and 299 girls, facilitating their handover to Child Welfare Committees or reunification with their families for care and rehabilitation.
As part of the Mission AAHT (Action Against Human Trafficking), the RPF also rescued nine children and 80 adults throughout the year, leading to the arrest of nine traffickers.
In a recent operation on January 21, 2026, RPF personnel at Guwahati railway station, in collaboration with CPDS and CIB teams, rescued two runaway minor boys, who were then placed in the care of Childline, Guwahati, for protection and rehabilitation.
