Rima Das's 'Not a Hero' Premieres at Berlin International Film Festival
Premiere of 'Not a Hero'
New Delhi, Feb 15: The highly anticipated film
, directed by the renowned Rima Das, made its debut at the Berlin International Film Festival, receiving a positive response from the audience.
The film was showcased in the Generation Kplus Competition section during the festival's 76th edition on Saturday.
"
invites young viewers to embrace ambiguity and emotional depth. It refrains from oversimplifying experiences or providing tidy resolutions to conflicts. I am thankful for its premiere in Generation, a platform where children are portrayed as complete individuals rather than mere symbols or lessons. This openness is vital to the film's essence... Walking the red carpet with the team added to the significance of the moment," Das expressed in a statement.
Set against a backdrop of urban and rural landscapes,
tells the story of a young boy as he navigates a new environment that transforms his perceptions of strength, masculinity, and belonging.
"Forced to leave the comforts of the city for his ancestral village, the boy faces his resentful aunt, forms a bond with a horse, and embarks on wild adventures with local children, discovering life's beauty and an unexpected courage within himself," the official synopsis states.
The film, which features dialogues in Assamese, Hindi, and English, stars Bhuman Bhargav Das, who previously collaborated with Das in her 2022 film
, alongside Sukanya Boruah and a cast of non-professional actors.
Produced by Das's Flying River Films in partnership with Akanga Film Asia, this marks the third occasion that her work has been featured at the festival, following the screenings of
, set to release in 2025.
