After CBSE, this state board has also started the On Screen Marking system, find out how students will benefit from it...
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) recently announced the introduction of an on-screen marking system, which will be implemented this year. Like the CBSE, the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) is also implementing an on-screen marking system for board exams. Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains announced this on Friday. He stated that Punjab will be among the first state boards in the country to adopt a fully digital evaluation system. This will significantly transform the way answer sheets are evaluated.
"Results will be faster and more accurate."
Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains said, "With this digital system, teachers will be able to evaluate scanned answer sheets on computers. The software will automatically add marks, resulting in faster and more accurate results. This system has already proven its effectiveness. He said, "During the supplementary examinations in September 2025, 23,000 answer sheets were evaluated quickly and accurately using this system."
In light of the positive results, the PSEB will implement on-screen marking in one subject of the Matriculation examination this year. It will later be implemented in other subjects in a phased manner.
Each answer sheet will have a unique QR code
Minister Bains said, "The newly designed answer sheet will have a unique QR code on each page, enabling secure scanning and digital processing."
What is On-Screen Marking?
Under the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system, answer sheets will be scanned in a secure environment and uploaded to a central dashboard. Examiners will then check them online, where marks will be automatically added. A fixed marking scheme will be applied, and progress can also be monitored."
Transparency for Students
PSEB Chairman Amarpal Singh said that this system will benefit students with uniform evaluation and complete transparency. He said, "Our teachers will also work on a clean digital system, which will help maintain uniformity and accurate records."
He also stated that the board has completed all technical and administrative preparations for its implementation in March. Amarpal Singh said, “The On-Screen Marking (OSM) system is a guarantee of Punjab's commitment to its students.
